Germantown High School triumphed in the marquee event, the distance medley relay, after dueling with a Manayunk Running Club team in a thrilling finish.

Germantown nipped Manayunk by less than two seconds in a time of 12:28:40 at the Regional Clubs Track Meet hosted by the Wanderers on August 28.

Germantown’s victory over the nine-team field capped a night of  excellent individual performances by Philadelphia area runners at the Roxborough High School track. The meet was sponsored by New Balance and the Bryn Mawr Running Company

There were lots of great individual performances.  Evan Novakowski won the opening event, the 3,200 meter run, in 10:14:14 by less than a second over Brian Crispell of the Bryn Mawr Running Club and two seconds over third place finisher Michael Rothermel also of Bryn Mawr.  Dana Kolesar, another Bryn Mawr runner, was the top female finisher in 12:31:26 followed by Anne Marie Everhart.

Harry Norton, who finished fourth in the 3,200, came back to win the mile in  4:48:02, with Dana Kolesar again the top woman with Anne Marie Everhart again just behind her.

Bryn Mawr Running Club dominated in the middle distance as well.  Josh Morrell had the fastest time, 2:24:03, in the 800 meters with Brian Crispell recording the second fastest time, a little more than a second behind.  The women’s division featured two fantastic performances with Beth Blythe of the Greater Philadelphia Track Club recording the fastest time of 2:31:16. Kristin Zielinski of Manayunk Running Club was second fastest in 2:31:95.  Errol O’Gilvie of Bryn Mawr won the 400 meters in 56:27 followed by Germantown High runner Alphya Togba and Alon Abramson of West Philly Runners in third. Fastest woman was Leslie Alston of St. Luke’s Track Club followed by Kayla Foster of Germantown High School.

Brian Crispell, Dana Kolesar were the hardest working athletes in the track meet running in four races.  John Hoffman was a pretty hard worker too running in two races after having completed an 18 miles workout earlier in the day!

New Balance provided demo shoes for many of the runners  as well as first place prizes.  Clif Bar supplied free power bars.  Wanderer chefs were busy providing burgers, hot dogs and pulled pork following the races and lots of runners brought dessert and side dishes.  Special thanks to Philly Runner Kevin Gruenfeld for helping with the photographs, and a big shout out to area clubs who attended the meet.   Full results are posted below.
