If you are reading this, you have arrived at our new website!

After months of working and tinkering, we are finally live !

The overall objective of the major web site overhaul is to make our website more interactive and useful to our members.

Here are some of the specific improvements:

  1. The first major change is that we now require users to register (free) in order to take advantage of many of the new interactive features. The need for registration is three-fold: to protect your privacy, to reduce the need for us to moderate various areas of the site, and to thwart the spam engines from posting bogus msgs (or swiping member data).
  2. To that end, members can easily report abuse and we are able to block offenders from using our site again.
  3. Upon registering you are able to create a “profile” containing your contact info, info about yourself, upload a picture, etc. This info is only revealed to fellow Wanderers. Plus upon registering, you gain access to the entire website and all of its new features.
  4. On the home page, it now shows you fellow (registered) online Wanderers at that time and you are able to do a live-chat with them right on the home page.
  5. In addition to our all new threaded discussion forums, we can now post comments at the bottom of individual news stories. We created a separate ‘forum’ for ppl looking to coordinate a run with fellow Wanderers and another to answer web questions.
  6. We have a completely new Calendar including the ability for members to RSVP to events; a list of participating members is then shown to other Wanderers.
  7. The Member directory can be used to display your contact info (phone, email) which is handy for coordinating sharing rides to events. Remember, this info is hidden from non-Wanderers.
  8. Members can now easily add events to the calendar which ought to help keep the Calendar current with minimal effort.
  9. We have reinstituted photo albums labeled as “Gallery” on the site. They now take much less time to create, look better and we can even let selected Wanderers upload their own pics through the website.
  10. Other features include a member directory, weather, new discussion forums, and the ability to send members email.

Again, all of these features will require members to log in. Viewers not registered can still see our home page and access much of the home page. But to post comments or chat on line, members will need to register. This log-in feature should provide more protection for members.

I would like to stress that the Wanderers do not consider themselves an exclusive club. We welcome runners in the area, even if they do not participate in workouts to log into the site. We would like to be a resource for all local runners.

One other feature is that we are introducing a members page where members can give a profile of themselves. This profile can be funny, or serious or you do not have to provide any information. Over the years, many Wanderers have participated in club events, but then moved out of the area, or never lived in the area to begin with. I thought that the members page would allow them to keep connected. As far as current members from the area, I thought this page could be a lot of fun. Please take the time to set up your profile.

Knowing us, I am sure we screwed up somehow. But don’t worry, we will work out the glitches.  Most anything is now fairly easily configured on the site so if there are things exposed to the general public that should be hidden, or visa versa, or if you are looking to add a feature, please contact Jan.
