Wanderers Excel at Philadelphia Distance Run
Although no team competition exists at the Philadelphia Distance run, the Wissahickon Wanderers must have been the top club at this year's race.
Nine Wanderers ran in 2001 race held in mid-September, and
the results were impressive. Beth Johnston reinforced her
star status on the Wanderer team with a time of 1:36:26
in the half-marathon run. She finished 926th out of a field
of more than 6,000 runners, and finished fourth (we repeat,
fourth) in her classification.
It was not long before the second Wanderer Michelle
Tulino crossed the finish line in a time of 1:38:12. Then
it became a virtual conveyor belt of Wanderer runners:
Jan Deruiter in 1:41:18
Bob Alig in 1:41:26
Ric Horowitz in 1:41:27
These guys were followed afterwards by Dan Gordon and Sally Gordon and Scott and Janet Quitel.
