Marathon Madness Hits Wanderers
Marathon madness has broken out among the Wissahickon Wanderers.
Scott Quitel has always had the disease. Scott's case
lies dormant for 10 months each year then breaks out in the
months of October and November when he is known to run three
marathons in a four-week period. This year, he has already
completed the Atlantic City Marathon, and will be running
in the New York
Marathon, and is listed as a probable for the Philadelphia
Marathon.
Now, Richard Takata has the malady. On October 21, he completed the Casino Niagara Marathon in Niagara, Canada. The week before, he ran the Canadian International Marathon, and the symptoms broke out when he ran the Toronto waterfront Marathon on September 23.
Sally Gordon and Dan Gordon will be embarking on two marathons
in the upcoming weeks, with the New
York Marathon scheduled for November 4, and the Philadelphia
Marathon on November 18.
Speed Barrier Broken
Martin Paquet broke the four hour barrier at the Lausanne
Marathon in October. The excellent time of 3 hours and
41 minutes should put an end to the rising complaints
that Wanderer women have been doing all the heavy lifting
for the club, while the men have been athletic drones. Until
Martin's breakthrough, Wanderer women owned all the sub-four
hour performances in the marathon including Beth Johnston's
unassailable mark of 3 hours and 31 minutes at the
Steamtown Marathon. Martin cooled down from his feat by climbing
several 10 thousand foot mountains in the Alps afterwards.
Martin will be exhibiting his marathon skills later this month
at the Philadelphia
Marathon.
Susan Branson has very thoughtfully provided the Wanderers Running Club with two field chairs. These chairs should be extremely suitable for watching Wanderers events and they include very nicely designed cup holders for water, gatorade or some other sports drink.
