Paul Hines of Andorra just gets better with age. Paul, 47, defeated a tough field to repeat as champion in the Roxborough Over the Hill 5-k race on October 21. The Chestnut Hill Academy track and cross country coach scorched the course in a time of 17 minutes and 52 seconds, which was 17 seconds faster than last year when he won the inaugural event.
Finishing a strong second in a time of 18:40 was Bob Reynolds, 44 of Erdenheim. Bryant Nix, 37, of Levittown trailed in third place with a time of !9:12, while Roxborough High School coach Devin Riley, 28, finished fourth in 1931.
Nicole Rivera and Jennifer Flint of the Valley Ford Striders put in a strong showing, finishing 1-2 in the women's division and 14-15 overall. Nicole's time was 22:20, with Jennifer just one second behind.
Dave Tierney, 15, of Manayunk led a strong contingent of juniors in a time of 19 minutes and 48 seconds, and was fifth overall. Vincent Mundy, 14, of Acorn Street in Roxborough ran a strong seventh in a time of 20 minutes and 16 seconds. He was followed eight seconds later by David Woltman, 16 of Roxborough. Other juniors who distinguished themselves were Christine Zeo of Southampton, Tiffany Higgins of Philadelphia, Dennis Holmes of Philadelphia and Packy Gordon of Mt. Airy.
The race, which is to benefit the Roxborough High School track, was organized by the Wissahickon Wanderers, who also featured a number of runners in the race. Fifty six runners competed in this year's event.
The 5-k run was sponsored by the Roxborough-Manayunk Bank, Sneak Preview running store, and The Review newspaper.
