Wanderers
Stand Out at Distance Run
The Philadelphia Distance Run turned into a parade of Wissahickon
Wanderers crossing the finish line. Many of the Wanderers
looked a little worse for wear as they finished due to the
100 percent humidity levels, but the overall performances
were impressive.

The Wanderes played host to a pair of Washington
runners (Darcy O'Donnell, left and Carly Vynne, 2nd from
left) in the Philadelphia Distance Run in mid-September.
Ever the gracious hosts, The Wanderers (from left, Jen
Parker, Sally Gordon, and Beth Johnston) were dusted by
the Washington Team. |
Bothered by hamstring problems all summer, Paul Hines surprised
everyone including himself with an astonishing time of 1:23:55
over the half-marathon course. The time earned him 160th place
in a field of 8,500 registered runners at the Distance Run
which was held on September 15.

Future Wanderers' Star Matthew Vizza, 11,
actually won his half-mile race during the childrens'
event prior to the Distance Run. Way to go! |
Beth Johnston followed in 1:40:52 with Chris Moore not far
behind in 1:41:02. Other Wanderers competing in the run were
Marc Zisselman, Michele Tulino, Janet and Scott Quitel, Snakebite,
Rock Steady, Rick Horowitz, Blue Ridge Queen and Bob Alig.
Also making a very strong Wanderers debut was Josephine DePalma
who finished in 2:04:29.

Tim Conroy, 11, did not let the heat bother
him one bit during his one half-mile heat. |
John Vizza, 12, Displays classic running
form during the children's run. The wanderers can't wait
until he grows up. |
Paul Hines did not appear bothered by the excessively high
humidity levels. But almost all the other runners were disappointed
by their times.
Future Wanderers put in a strong showing during the children's
running events the day before. Heidi Zisselman, Bobby Zisselman,
John Vizza, Matthew Vizza and Tim Conroy all picked up medals
for running in races up too 1/2 mile.
