Zock Suffers at Timberman Triathlon

Wanderer ace Bob Zock competed in the Timberman Triathlon (www.timbermantri.com) on Lake Winnipesauke in New Hampshire on August 17. He filed the following report.

I am not a swimmer and made the big mistake of thinking that no swim training was alright - I would just grit it out, slightly torn rotator cuff and all. Well, the 55 minutes of inefficient flailing really took its toll.

I think my swim time was 750 out of 770 or something. I was greeted by a transition area ghost-town nearly devoid of bicycles, rode a decent bike leg, ran 100 yards of the run leg and was blindsided by waves of quad-bound lactic acid that must have been accumulating from the swim-leg - no doubt the product of my frantic kicking. I ran painful 10 minute + miles for thirteen miles and finished with an over 6 hour time.
