Boston Marathon 2004: “Hot Enough
For You?”
Considering the savage heat, four Wissahickon Wanderers
performed nobly at the Boston Marathon on April 19. Finishing
in a dead heat at 3:06:58 were Matt Palombaro and Jeff
Hayes.
They placed a vey impressive 518th and 519th out of an elite
field of 20,000. Boston Marathon regular Paul Hines was timed
in 3:21:41, while newcomer Martha Lamb was
recorded in 3:48:52.
They all suffered out on the course.
“It was without a doubt, the toughest race of
my life,” noted Jeff
in his field report to Wanderers HQ. “I think I was in terific shape
to run a decent time, but with the heat and the hills (both up and down them)
and
hydration feas and complications, it made things very challenging.”
Martha’s report was more of the same.
“It was really hot,” she noted. “Not
much of a breeze at all starting off in Hopkinton, though
it picked
up as we got closer to Boston."
“I was disappointed with my time, of course. I
was shooting for 3:30 , but now I am finding out most people
were off their time by about 20 minutes.”
Matt’s
report accompanies this story.
Congratulations Jeff, Matt, Paul and Martha for your superb
efforts.
