Records Shattered at Chestnut Hill Relays
Peter
Rook simply vaporized a seven-runner
field to capture the Wanderer One Mile at the Chestnut
Hill Relays on April
3. He was timed in an astonishing 4:30:05 to shatter the
previous mile record set by Jeff Hayes in 2003 of 4:58.
In the first annual Wanderer 100 Meter
Dash, Jeff Haggquist turned into Mr. Speedy
winning the race in 14.3 seconds,
and in the process establishing a new
record for the event. Rock Steady nipped Julie Lawon in
a photo finish for the silver medal in a time of 15.7 seconds. Julie was timed
in 16.0. Jim
Campbell followed in fourth with Janet Siegel running fifth.
Peter Rook’s
performance in the mile overshadowed an excellent run by Chris Moore who placed
second in 5:17.9. Dave Thomas ran third in a time of 5:35.9.
Steve Rook took fourth in 5:53:7 followed by Mike
Branca in 6:11.9. Rock Steady
got locked in a duel with fifth grader Cameron MacTavish. Rock was able to
hold
off the hard-charging Cameron to finish sixth in 6:22.1 with Cameron timed
at 6:24.3.
Peter Rook has made it a point of feasting
on Wanderer events having won the Wanderer Open Cross Country
race in September.
The two
open races were part of the Chestnut Hill Academy Relays.
A big thanks to CHA coach Paul
Hines for scheduling the events.
