Wanderers Open Up Triathlon
Season Impressively...
Report by Lonestar
The Cape May mini triathlon
on Sunday June 6th was a great success. Out of 260 entrants,
our Wanderers team placed a respectable 166th. The day was
perfect for the swim and the run, less so for the bike.

It
was drizzling and 65 degrees. Mark Schwartz (my brother-in-law)
did his very first lake swim ˆ half a mile in a murkey,
vegetation-infested cedar lake. He said at one point he
was grabbing onto lily pads for traction! He came out of
the
water in 19:20. He handed off to my sister, Kathryn
Schwartz,
who did a personal best of 46:13 over the 15 mile bike
course, which was slick and full of sharp right turns.
I then did
the 2.8 mile run on a nice sandy trail in 32:52. The first
place finisher was another relay team, the White Coats,
who tore through the course in 1:10 31. We finished about
half
an hour later, at 1:40:57.
It was a fun race with lots
of encouragement and friendliness from other participants.
I
strongly encourage other Wanderers to do this race next
year.
