For the second year in a row, Bernie won his age division in the Howell Independence Aquathon in his hometown of Howell, Michigan over the July 4th weekend.

The Aquathon consisted of a 2K run followed by a 750 meter swim and finished off with another 2K run.

Bernie, an Ironman survivor in 2002, completed the course in about 34 minutes to win in his 30-34 age group.
