Wanderers Grab Honors at Double Trouble
The Wissahickon Wanderers collected an assortment of cuts
scrapes and awards at the Double Trouble 15/30K race on June
27 at French Creek State Park. All Wanderers displayed common sense by
entering the 15K race.
Matt Palombaro finished 8th
out of a field of 293 (4th in his 18-29 age divsion) to complete
the treacherous race in a time of 1:08:47. Chris Moore finished
not far behind in 26th in a time of 1:14:56. In the process,
the Wanderers pair collected the scalps of two local running
legends, Fred Kenney in 33rd and Chuck
Shields in 40th.
But the real hero was Barbara
Gorka who won her age division, (40-49 F),
and finished 72nd overall in a time of 1:22:56. The
mug she was awarded for her win is to be added to
the Wanderers Trophy Display Case.
Randy Clever won the
best scrape division for a nasty, brown bruise on his
shoulder produced by a tumble out on the course. The
fall did not deter Randy who finished 70th in a time
of 1:21:39 and won a prize for being sixth in his age
division (50-59M).
Susan Hurrey held on
to beat Rock Steady by 45 seconds,
who in turn held on to defeat Space Ghost by
a minute and a half. Susan finished 161st in 1:36:46
with Rock in 164th and Space in 173rd.
Wanderers nemesis Huybert Groenendaal of
Princeton won the 30K race in a time of 2:09:15.

Wanderers team not only looked
