August 17, 2004 — Conditions proved excellent for the August 17th Distance Meet held by the Wissahickon Wanderers at the Roxborough High School Track. With a field ranging in age from 6 to almost 60, personal bests were made, prizes were awarded, and scores were settled!

The evening began with the running of a sub-5:30 heat for the one mile. Jason Bull won the heat, turning in an impressive time of 4:37. Dan Brewer took top honors in the 5:30 and over heat for the men with a time of 5:33 and Nicole Henry won for the women with a time of 5:37.

The 3000 meter event was won by Matthew DiPietore for the men with a time of 9:23 and Allyson Lehrman for the women with a time of 12:05. Also noted in this event was the competition between fellow Wanderers Susan Hurrey and Dan Gordon. Susan finished 12 seconds faster than Dan, with a time of 13:06. This is in addition to her achievement in the mile event wherein she finished 3 seconds faster than Dan with a time of 6:30.

Next came the 800 meters, which was won by Stefan Moorhead for the men with a time of 2:04 and Cheryl Bellaire for the women with a time of 2:51. In addition, impressive times were posted by Wanderers Matthew Palombaro (2:19), Chris Moore (2:22.6) and Marc Zisselman (2:22.9).

In the 5000 meter event, an inspiring performance was put in by winner (and Four-Time All-American in cross country, indoor mile, and both the outdoor 800 and 1500) Eliud Njubi with a time of 14:52. (Click here for his impressive bio.)

For the final event, the Distance Medley Relay (1200m, 400m, 800m, 1600m), no times were kept, however the winning team was comprised of Jason Bull, Cheryl Bellaire, Matthew DiPietore and Chuck Shields.
