[Some] Wanderers Will Run for Beer
(Randy Clever, Leslie Turchetti, Susan "I Drink For Free"
Hurrey,
and Matt Palombaro before the race)
Four Wanderers took a road trip to Delaware for the Kelly's Logan
House
5K. The race featured a tough and hilly course through Wilmington's
Rockford
Park and free alcohol and a great post-race party afterwards. Race participants
received their choice of a pint of Michelob Ultra, Guinness Stout, or a Tequila
Sunrise [all Wanderers went for the Guinness]. Wanderer Susan "Free
Drinks" Hurrey took second place in her age group for the second
time in a week (23:04, 62nd
overall).
Leslie Turchetti powered through the hills to turn in a PR, crossing
the finish line in 33:37 (10th age group, 223rd overall). Randy Clever ran
a solid 22:11 (5th age group, 47th overall), and Matthew
Palombaro won his age
group (17:49, 10th overall). Shots were provided for all age group award winners,
as they went to the podium (made up of cases of beer) to accept their awards.
All four Wanderers complained of churning stomachs, brought on by the onslaught
of hills on the course. But after self-medicating with Guinness, all four claimed
to feel much better.
Surprisingly, the promise of free beer did not draw a
larger Wanderer attendance...
