HURREY TAKES A LICKIN' AND KEEPS ON TICKIN'
Susan Hurrey's Observations of May's Alligator 10k Trail
Run on the campus of Albright College:
- The race is advertised
as a 10k but then it's revealed right before the start
that it's really 7ish miles. But for those of us who got
lost it's really at least 7.5. [Runner Girl's note: it's
interesting that Hurrey got lost, since on the race's website,
last year's winner is quoted as saying, "this course is so
well marked, Ray Charles could have followed it!" (may he rest
in peace)...
- On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the most difficult,
I would rate this run a 9. The hills were usually impossible
to run up and at least one downhill I was walking because
it was so steep and I
was sliding sideways and slowing myself down by crashing
into trees. Okay, maybe not crashing but definitely
abruptly bumping into them.
- I saw a girl who had obviously just had a bad fall. I
heard her say she "thinks" she's okay (she didn't look okay)
and then within 2 minutes, Hurrey takes a tumble, twists
her ankle, has a nice little lump on the knee, and a bruise
on the butt cheek. (If you
were there, I would have showed you. Your loss!)
- Final
time: 1:19.
Hurrey is sure to be sore tomorrow.
The End!
P.S. You should have seen how big the trophies were.
I'm not kidding, they were the biggest I've ever seen for a
race. I'm getting one next year - unless I come to
my senses and don't do this race again!)
