Massive Mudfest Performance
Turned in by Wanderers
The Mt. Penn Mudfest is one nasty race.
Among the features of this 15 kilometer course are
numerous hills, several stream crossings, many downed
trees and lots of rocks. The hills, in fact,
are very unusual. They always seem to go up, but never
come down. Factor in temperatures that rose up to 80
degrees with a shining sun, and this all added
up to a killer of a race.
As if this was not enough,
Megan “Hard” Boyle was running with a sprained ankle suffered the day before while at the hair dressers
of all placed.
With all these demanding race conditions, it was no
surprise that the Wanderers showed up in force for
the April 15 event. Answering
the call were Randy Clever, Chris Verry, Polly
Jansen, Wendy Stevens, Adam Davey, Dawn
Fantasia, Dennis Crowne, Megan, the Great One, Carnage and Farah
Marasagian.
Chris
and Polly absolutely smoked the course. Official results
are still being tabulated. However, according
to Wanderer record keeping, Chris ran the course in
1:16 and finished 29th overall in a field of 800 and
6th in his age category. Polly finished 94 in 1:26
and grabbed fourth in her age category. While
Chris was receiving a well-earned massage at the finish
line, Wanderers were still out laboring on the course.
Randy was the next to finish around 1:30 followed by
Wendy. The
Wanderers were aided by the appearance of Susan's nephew Kevin
Williamson, who finished in around 1:32, and
that was done without any training! The Great One finished
in about 1:42, but looked uncomfortable. She
must have been hearing the footsteps of Carnage and
Megan, swollen ankle and all, a few minutes behind.
Adam
had to contend with allergies as well as terrain which
made the race positively brutal. Farah, Dawn and Dennis
were more than a match for the difficult course and
finished strong.
