Runner's World Half Marathon
Race Report
By Megan Boyle
On Sunday,
April 30 Wanderers Dennis Crowne, Megan
Boyle and
Maureen Crowne unloaded their glycogen stores at
the Runner’s World Half Marathon in Allentown,
PA. A tolerable morning chill welcomed runners onto
the deceptively challenging course of rolling hills
through pleasant parks and back roads concluding
in the spectacular sunshine and warmth of J. Birney
Crum Stadium. Undaunted by the frequently changing
elevation, Crownie hot-footed it to an excellent
2:05:11 finish. In her second half marathon
ever, Maureen pounded out a 1:50:06, lopping a full
four minutes off her 2005 PDR time and Megan punched
her previous PDR finish in the face with a 1:49:48
upset.
A true runner's race, the well-executed event organized
by the Lehigh Valley Road Runners included ample parking
two blocks from race start and finish, a plethora of
potties, pace teams, musicians playing along the course,
and post-race bells and whistles such as bananas, pierogie
soup, muffin tops, and vegetarian meatball parm sandwiches.
At the expo runners claimed a long-sleeve technical t-shirts,
and bib featuring not only their number, but in a brilliant
move, their name. Hats off to the LVRR for hosting
a fantastic race. A Wanderer’s presence is
assured and encouraged for next year’s event.
