Wanderers are a Force to be Reckoned
with in Delaware
By Leslie Turchetti
On an early Sunday morning, May 21st Wanderers Dennis
Crowne, Chris Verry, Megan Boyle, Maureen Crowne, Wendy
Stevens and Polly Jansen ventured south to the booming
metropolis of Wilmington, Delaware to participate in
the Delaware Marathon & Relay. The Wanderers Cheerleading
Team of Susan Hurrey, Farrah, and Maureen Mignogna
were also present as a phenomenal support for the runners
with signs & cowbells a-plenty (able to be heard
at least half a mile away)!
Dennis “Hardcore” Crowne, living up to
his name, completed the 4-lap course in an impressive
4:52:13. Though a little tired of the scenery (or lack
thereof) by the second lap, Dennis looked strong at
the end and managed to crack a smile at the rest of
the Wanderers who had spelled-out C-R-O-W-N-E-! on
their rock-hard abs. Turns out Dennis was smiling because
he thought Chris’ exclamation point was actually
an arrow pointing down!
The “girl power” relay team of Megan,
Maureen, Wendy & Polly recorded an exceptional
combined time of 3:40:35. Despite Megan nearly barfing & Wendy
nearly falling asleep standing up, the resolute team
finished 4th out of 21 in the Female Open division.
Chris participated on a team of co-workers from Wilmington
Friends School. Lucky for Chris, he got to take in
the breathtaking sights of the course two times around
due to covering for an injured teammate. By the way,
who ever heard of a “Teacher” division
in a race?! Chris’ team topped this new category
with a time of 3:21:17.
