Wanderers Make Tracks at the Double Trouble

Nine Wanderers made great strides at the Double Trouble 15k/30k trail race in French Creek Park Sunday, June 24th. Representing the 15k group (lovingly dubbed as “slackers” and “candy-asses” by the 30k-ers) were Ken Evans, Wendy Stevens, Polly Jansen, Chris Verry, Ed Hanna, Anita Zalewski and Eric Johnson. Bob Reynolds and Doug Dubrosky, the stamina duo represented the 30k group (lovingly dubbed as “obsessed” and “brainless” by the 15k-ers). Dan was gracious enough to loan out the technovan & in one of his spiffy hats, gave the Wanderers a cheery send-off. Ken took the helm of the technovan facilitating some pre-race team bonding. Weather on race morning was declared “not-too-shabby” as 80 degree temps & low humidity made for a pleasant stint through the park. The precarious rocky terrain and daunting hills proved to be no match for the steady, focused Wanderers who amazingly suffered no severe falls or injuries this time!

Chris led the Wanderers charge finishing in 20th place with a time of 1:18:22. Ed, making his trail race debut was nipping at Chris’ heels finishing 22nd in 1:19:12. Polly took away some hardware finishing 2nd female 30-39 with a time of 1:24:19. Wendy also picked up some heavy metal finishing 4th female 30-39 with a time of 1:29:17. Ken proved his “Athlete of the Month” status by finishing strong at 1:57:28. Eric and Anita, despite being fashionably late & starting the race nearly half an hour behind everyone finished at a respectable 1:28:53 (Eric) and 2:06:00 (Anita). Both agreed that it was a fun challenge trying to catch up to people! Anita also made it plainly clear to the water stop volunteers along the way that she was just late, as opposed to taking her sweet time!

Bob and Doug claimed to be “undecided” as to whether they were doing the 30k at the beginning of the race, but we all knew the lure of doing two loops instead of one would be impossible for them to resist! Bob showed his true affection for the Wanderers by sporting the singlet for the race! One again, Bob proved he is “The Master” by finishing 1st male 50-59 with a time of 2:24:15 putting him in 4th overall. Doug also displayed his robust trail running proficiency by finishing 20th overall in 2:48:58. Then he found a nice grassy spot for a controlled decent! Overall, the Wanderers once again proved to be masters of the trail running domain. Great job to everyone!
