Matt J. Breaks Speed Barrier at Marsh Creek
Report by the Great One
The Wanderers sent a six member team out to Marsh
Creek State Park on Sunday, July 22, 2007 to compete in the Marsh
Creek Raptor Run, where you could run either five miles or ten miles.
This is a beautiful course and as promised it really did have it
all: Forests, rolling hills, grassy meadows, messy mud holes, and
downed trees.
Maureen and Ken ran the five mile loop with finish times of 53:55
for Maureen and 55:56 for Ken. Ken came in third in his age group.
I'm sure many Wanderers who know Ken would find it amazing to know
that he actually stayed on course for the entire race! Not one wrong
turn. Very good, Ken. This is progress. Maureen's adventure truly
began when she got in her car to drive home. Maureen parked in a
field of tall grass and when she opened her door a few cute little
grasshoppers jumped in. Maureen had a mild freakout when as she was
driving two of these little fellas planted themselves on her windshield
and stared at her as she drove. There were also a couple other grasshoppers
hanging out on her passenger seat, her purse, etc.
Matt
"Speed Racer" Joosse, Doug
Dubrosky, Brian
McKenna, and Susan "The Great
One" Hurrey ran the ten mile loop.
Matt Joosse blew the competition away and won the race, cruising
to the finish line with a time of 1:07:54. Matt's competition was
almost a full four minutes behind! And as if this isn't impressive
enough, I've been told that Matt pulled a Ken Evans and took a detour
during the race, running up a hill only to realize he was off course.
Despite all that, Matt set a new course record during the race!
Doug Dubrosky came in next at 1:20:01. Not too shabby. Susan "The
Great One" Hurrey despite the fact that ba-blam cramps
came on at mile eight had a time of 1:37:40. And Brian McKenna finished
at 1:45:52. I believe Brian spent some extra time in the woods slaying
snakes in preparation for the Bald Eagle Mountain Megatransect.
This is yet another race that all Wanderers should put on their
race calendar. And why is that? Is it the beautiful course? Maybe.
Is it because it's for a good cause? Perhaps. But if you ask me the
most important reason is because . . . there's HOT DOGS at the finish!!!
