Wanderers Prevail at Boston Marathon
by
Barbara Gorka
I went into this marathon with low expectations. But
when we started receiving emails from Boston Athletic
Association warning us about the weather and how we
should prepare for hypothermic conditions, I decided
to lower them even more.
Alas, the weather turned out
not to be that bad on race day, which really ruined my
built-in excuse for a mediocre performance. On the
positive side, I ran a steady pace and never hit the
wall. On the negative side, my steady pace was pretty
slow.
But do I regret running Boston? Not a bit. The
training was great, sharing the experience with other
Wanderers (especially Boston "virgins" Monica and
Polly) was fun, and running in a Nor'Easter was
certainly memorable. And the post-marathon ice cream
has been very satisfying...
