Hines Conquers All in 5K

In case Wanderer fans did not know, Paul Hines owns the Roxborough 5k race. Paul repeated as champion of the Over the Hill 5-K on October 21 blistering the course in 17 minutes and 52 seconds, which was almost half a minute faster than his winning time last year.

Paul defeated a tough field including Bob Reynolds of Erdenheim who finished second in 18 minutes and 40 seconds and Bryant Nix of Levittown who ran third in 19:12.

The Valley Forge Striders invaded the Wanderers lair for the race, and gave the home club a swift spanking. Nicole Rivera and Jennifer Flint finished one-two in the women’s division and 14th and 15th overall topping the first Wanderer finisher Dan Gordon by a little more than half a minute. Michelle Tulino followed shortly afterwards in a time of 23:17.

The Over the Hill 5-K attracted a field of 55 runners. The race produced rare local performances by Wanderers Tom Humphrey and Susan Branson, who finished in 27:17 and 29:30 respectively on the tough, hilly course. Other Wanderers competing were Sally Gordon, Packy Gordon, and Carol Tashjian. Jan Deruiter, on the strict instructions of team doctor Fay Led Medschule, did not compete, but provided security on his bicycle.

The Over the Hill 5k was organized by the Wanderers with proceeds going to the Roxborough High School track.
