Wanderers Take On The Elements ... And Win!
When a freak autumn storm dumped three inches of snow in Ohio the day before the Turkey Trot 10-K over the Thanksgiving weekend, many runners must have been tempted to call in sick. But that thought didnt even occur to us, said Wanderer Tom Humphrey. Road tested from their experience in the Dances With Dirt relay race earlier in the fall, Wanderers Dean Bredenbech, Bernie Brosnan, and Tom Humphrey proved themselves to be the class of the field winning a variety of honors.
Firmly establishing himself as the strongman of the Wissahickon Wanderers running club, Dean Bredenbech slogged through the ankle deep snow to complete the hilly course in 46 minutes. The performance earned him a third-place finish in his age category (34-39). Bernie steamed across the finish line in 52 minutes, second in his age category (24-29). Tom, fighting off the effects of some serious Thanksgiving feasting, ran the race in a workmanlike 58 minutes, but was the only Wanderer to win a prize, a pumpkin pie. Delicious, was Toms reaction. Clearly, the spoils go to the slow.
