The course crosses terrain that is considered hallowed ground for trail runners…the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Set along the rugged and beautiful coast line just above San Francisco, The North Face Endurance Challenge 50-miler brings out not just local runners but some of the heavyweights of the ultra running universe.
Right there in the middle of them was our own Joe Kulak. In fact, Joe wasn’t in the middle of them. He was in front of most of them. Out of a field of about 200 runners, Joe finished 25th. Joe’s performance in the race held on December 8 was huge.
Joe filed this abbreviated report to Wanderers’ HQ. “The most competitive 50 miler in the country held on some of the best trails through Golden Gate National Recreation area, Rodeo Beach, Stinson Beach, Mt. Tam., etc. All the big trail ultra dogs toed the line and ran hard all day. 10,000′ up, 10,000′ down and 50 miles later all were enjoying a laugh and a beer.”
Speaking of the North Face company, Joe is profiled along with ultra running legend Dean Kamazes on the company web site. Keep up the good work, Joe!!
