Meteorologically speaking, July was one nasty month. Every day seemed to be brutally hot with suffocating humidity. It was like running in a sauna, or really to be more accurate a steam room. Many runners wilted under these stifling conditions or fled for the shore. But there was one Wanderer who shrugged off the weather and operated like a veritable running machine…Jim Trainor.
Regardless of the weather, if there was a race in July, Jim was probably running in it. Phil’s Tavern 5k was held on a particularly hot and sticky July 18. Jim was there and registered an excellent time of 31:51.
A week later, Jim ran in the rugged Gwynedd Mercy Griffins 5K cross country race in Fort Washington State Park. He then took two days off and then ran in the Run for the Hill of It 5-miler in the Wissahickon on July 28. This race is always a steam bath, but Jim persevered and finished in 52:50, at a strong pace of 10:34 a mile. There were probably a few other races in July that Jim ran in that we still don’t know about!
It should also be noted that if any runner has a problem out on the course, Jim is always the first person to assist. Whether it be a ride home or a ride to the hospital, Jim takes care of any runner in distress. For all these reasons, Jim Trainor has been named Athlete of the Month for July.
