The Wanderers put in a stellar performance at the Ugly Mudder on February 22, with Sharon Schmidt even finishing first in the women’s division.
There was just one problem. Carnage had not submitted the Wanderers team application for the 2009 season to the USA Track & Field organization, which scores the off-road series of races.
The problem became apparent when Sharon noted that the Wanderers team performance was not listed in the standings.
USATF secretary Norm Green confirmed that the application with $50 fee had not received. Even though the application and fee was immediately submitted after the error was discovered, Norm said the registration could not be made retroactive to include the results of the Ugly Mudder. He said all future team finishes would be recorded in the team results, just not the first race. Of course, all individual results are recorded for those who have signed up for individual membership so that Sharon’s awesome performance as well as the other Wanderer finishes will be recognized in the individual statistics.
Carnage has sent a letter of appeal to Norm at the USATF for the Ugly Mudder results to be recorded as part of the team score.
“I am hoping that all the effort which was put in by the Wanderers at the Ugly Mudder will be recognized in the team standings,” said Carnage. “Let’s see what happens.”
The USATF off-road series consists of eight races held throughout the year. The Wanderers have competed in this series for the last several years. Scores are totaled from all the races, although each team is allowed to drop the results from one race.
