Polly Jansen was named Wanderer Athlete of the Year at the club’s annual meeting on January 21. Polly did it all in 2009. She ran, she biked, she tried, organized, supported, encouraged. And to boot, she provided a lot of race reports and photos for our website. She was simply phenomenal.
Polly is the second recipient of the annual award succeeding another illustrious Wanderer, Jim Trainor (2008 recipient).
Achievement certificates were presented to other Wanderers as well, including Pete Michener, Noah Schusterman, Helen Cheung, Mountainman Jim Millar, and Trail Master Bob Reynolds for their various sporting accomplishments in 2009.
In addition, some athletic performances were recognized. Helen Cheung finished first in the USATF off-road series women’s rankings. Way to go, Helen.
On the business-side of the meeting, Matt Mauren suggested that the club start using Twitter to provide late-breaking information to club members. This suggestion met general approval. Immediately after the meeting, Wanderer IT staff started looking into setting up a Twitter program. There was also a general consensus at the meeting to start a Wanderers Facebook group.
No decision was made whether to enter the USATF off-road series in 2010. A decision will be made in the next week or so.
About 25 Wanderers attended the meeting at Valley Green Inn. Sharon baked a ginger bread cake and a Wanderers 10-year birthday-cake was served as well. Good cheer prevailed at the meeting.
